Grant from the Minister of Science and Higher Education under the DIALOG project to investigate symbolic stones across Poland!

We would like to inform you that the Minister of Science and Higher Education has awarded us a grant within the framework of the "Dialogue" program to study and document all symbolic stones - the so-called "God's feet", and others with which beliefs, legends, customs are associated - from the area all over Poland. Our research touches on one of the most unusual aspects of folk religiosity - the sacralization of space and the formation of so-called "miracle places"

The project envisages the inventory, documentation and creation of a catalog (digital and in printed form) of miracle sites associated with symbolic stones, the so-called "God's feet" that are the subject of religious beliefs throughout the country. They are a living manifestation of folk religiosity. It is not uncommon that the origins of today's well-known Marian shrines and places of worship were taken from such objects. A scientifically commented catalog of stones that are the subject of religious beliefs and treatments will be created, as well as a virtual museum dedicated to this subject. It will be supplemented by a record and catalog of other miraculous places, including the so-called "miraculous springs" from the area of eastern Poland.

The project is being carried out on behalf of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, under the direction of Dr. Lukasz Miechowicz.
