WYRĘBY (MÓJKA), GM. DYNÓW, POW. RZESZOWSKI

The Devil's Stone, now located in the area of the Myka Nature Reserve, administratively on the grounds of the village of Wyręby. According to local tradition, the devil carried the stone in order to destroy the castle in Odrzykon, but dropped it at dawn, when a hen crowed. Another legend says that the boulder was dropped by the devil when the church bells were killed. The boulder is also known as the "Erroneous Stone" because hikers passing by it were said to lose their way and wander off into the woods. According to local people, the stone used to be
much higher, reached the treetops and had a "mirror-like" surface. Each year the boulder is said to sink into the ground. During World War II, the boulder was partially destroyed by the Germans for use in road construction. In 1982 it was placed under protection - at the time it was supposed to protrude more than a meter above the surface.
