PŁONKA KOŚCIELNA, GM. ŁAPY, POW. BIAŁOSTOCKI

"Miraculous Spring" and the chapel on Łask are about half a kilometer from the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Płonkow Queen of Youth. The origins of the shrine date back to the 17th century. On August 5, 1673, the Virgin Mary appeared to a poor girl named Catherine. The vision was repeated, and the news spread throughout the area. Thanks to the local priest, pilgrims began to come to Plonka. During the prayers raised before the image of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, healings occurred. In 1679, the bishop of Janów, Stanislaw Dabski, recognized the veracity of the healings and issued a decree that permitted public worship of the image. Parish documents from the 17th and 18th centuries list 915 cases of miracles and healings especially of eyes, legs and hands. The spring at Łask was said to have ejaculated during the apparitions. The water was considered miraculous. The place also became a point of numerous pilgrimages. The spring was cased and a water intake was set up for drawing water. Along the road to the spring there are 15 rosary shrines.
