DOBRÓW, GM. KOŚCIELEC, POV. KOLSKI

According to an 1885 account, a stone "with the footprints of St. Bogumil of Dobrow" was said to lie on an elevation on the banks of the Warta River. According to tradition, Bogumił crossed the river with a dry foot and led the faithful. In the 19th century there was supposed to be a wooden cross by the stone. Dobrov is the place of birth and death of Blessed Bogumil (ca. 1138-end of the 12th century), identified in some sources with Bogumil, archbishop of Gniezno, or Peter (80s of the 12th century). The origins of his cult date back at least to the 14th century, and in particular became widespread from the 15th century in eastern Greater Poland (Korytkowski 1888, 263-277). The stone has not been found.
