AUGUSTÓW - STUDZIENICZNA, GM. AUGUSTÓW, POW. AUGUSTOWSKI

A miraculous spring (now a well) on the so-called "island" - part of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Studzinetsk. The history of the cult of this place dates back to the 18th century. At that time there was a hermitage here with a miraculous image of the Mother of God. At the end of the 18th century the first wooden chapel was built by former soldier and hermit Vincent Moravsky. According to legend, when the chapel was crowded with believers, a well was dug so that they could drink fresh water. It turned out to have miraculous healing powers. The image and the spring with the miraculous healing water enjoyed great veneration among the local population. According to beliefs, the water had special power to cure skin and eye diseases. After 1782, indulgences began to be held at the site. The brick chapel standing next to the well dates from 1872. In 1995 the coronation of the image of Our Lady of Studzniczna took place and the so-called "studzianka" was restored.
