OSTROŻANY, GM. DROHICZYN, POV. SIEMIATYCKI

The first church in Ostrozhany, dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Apostles Peter and Paul, was founded on July 19, 1450 by the owners of these lands, Bartholomew and Dadźbóg Ostrozhansky, at the place where the brothers
among the linden trees, on a large stone lying there, the Mother of God appeared, ordering a temple to be erected here. Her footprint was to remain on the stone. Originally, the brothers disobeyed the order and began building the temple in another location. However, one day they found the foundations of the temple moved to the place of the apparition, recognizing this as a sign of Divine Providence. According to local tradition, the stone with the "imprint of the footprint" of the Mother of God is now under the altar of the church with the miraculous image of Our Lady of Ostrozhan.
